With the start of a new year comes the start of a bundle of new ideas in the event world. Year on year event profs eagerly anticipate the trendiest of all trends set to take the event industry by storm. But what does 2018 actually hold for event planners looking for the next ‘big thing’ to differentiate their experiences? We take a look at 5 of the hottest event topics for 2018:
Facial recognition technology is one of the latest topics in the event world. Set to reduce check-in times considerably and add a more personal experience, facial recognition technology is one to keep an eye on if you’re looking at ways to enhance check-in efficiency and provide something a little different to the event experience. As well as this, the technology is also set to recognise emotions, too. With tech giants such as Apple already looking to incorporate this technology into the mobile tech market, this technology is sure to add a new level of value by understanding how your customers feel, capture demographics and attention spans and, essentially, provide in-valuable data on what it is that grabs the attention of your target audience.
One of the latest trends in event filmography, drones provide the perfect solution to re-live the event experience. One of the greatest advantages of drone technology is that it can capture panoramic views with un-rivalled camera angles, something which is limited with standard filmography. Looking at an efficient way to capture every moment of your event? Drone technology could be the answer you’re looking for (and it’s surprisingly cost effective, too!)
Considerations towards the environment are becoming ever more prevalent in every aspect of the world, and this in no different in events. With plastic usage having a profound impact on the life in our oceans, single-use plastic is becoming a big no-go, and this is a crucial consideration that brands and agencies alike must work together on. So, what does this actually mean? Perhaps it’s swapping plastic bottles for glass bottles, or even getting rid of straws? Either way, this is an important topic that event planners must get right for 2018.
Despite its hype over a number of years, the technology involved in AI is becoming better than ever, and is becoming seamlessly more integrated into our everyday lives and, for events, this means that it is almost becoming a formality to have some sort of artificial intelligence tech. AI technology such as ‘Chatbots’ took the event world by storm in 2017, and it’s anticipated that this will be no different for 2018. Chatbots play a key part in encouraging attendee participation and engagement, as well as providing an element of fun to the event experience. Chatbots are also key in event support, being able to answer delegate questions, allowing staff to be relieved to work more efficiently on other aspects of the event.
With AI also comes something even more crucial – data. Data will be as key in 2018 as it was in 2017, and AI will be a key technology in helping to collate this.
With competition in the industry as rife as ever, event planners are constantly looking at new ways to provide more for less, adding real value to the experience from start to finish. Added value will be a key differentiator in events for 2018, and it’s something which event planners must consider in order to keep on top of 2018’s fierce competition.
